The Senior Associate Managing Director, as an educator, provides direction for student learning and academic success while coordinating the overall administrative, supervisory, assessment, and programmatic facets for a co-educational campus of 8,000 students. Every day is different and challenging. My "learner" strengths get fed well by having to learn new ways of doing things.

A family. Very relational and fun place to work. We work hard, and we are rewarded for it.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the spirit and pride that students, faculty, and staff have for Texas Tech. There is no doubt that Red Raiders are proud of their university.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy getting students connected with faculty and staff outside of the classroom. It's important to ensure that we are supporting students' academics as well as helping them grow personally. Through programs, Learning Communities, Residential Tutoring, and individual meetings, I enjoy seeing the connections that students make that help them be successful during their time at Tech.

We are a large department that focuses on creating a great experience for our students.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy the small town feel with the benefits of a large city. There is something for everyone; you just have to find what's right for you.

Assistant Director for Training and Development

The Assistant Director for Training and Development, as an educator, is responsible for all educational and developmental activities occurring within Residence Life in order to create a comprehensive and seamless learning experience for all levels of staff, including, but not limited to, overseeing full-time and student staff training and development. The Assistant Director for Training and Development is also charged in assisting with the orientation of new staff to the institution by monitoring and assisting in the completion of institutional hiring and training requirements as well as assisting with the development of a departmental orientation.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

It's a very welcoming, family friendly environment. The traditions as well as the commitment to grow and advance ourselves as a University is great.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love processes. Basically, my whole job is looking at processes with an end result in mind, specifically in training and development. I am challenged to think critically and analyze our processes daily.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I would say its established with a lot of opportunities for growth. It is very student centered, especially in terms of student follow-up which is a top focus. I believe we are dedicated to the future of our new professionals and that's part of my job to make sure individuals are leaving Tech prepared for their next step on their journey.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy the college town feel within a larger city. While it's not a Dallas, there is still plenty to do in Lubbock. I enjoy going bowling during my league night. I enjoy going to the movies, enjoying one of the many restaurants we have in town and of course going to Tech football games!

University Student Housing is committed to the total development of the resident within an inclusive community through student government, programming, residence hall standards, and supportive learning environments in the residence halls.

The Assistant Director (AD), as an educator, provides direction for student learning and academic success while coordinating the overall administrative, supervisory, and programmatic facets for a co-educational area of four-to-five residential complexes housing 3200-3700 students. The Assistant Director is responsible for the direct and indirect supervision of the residence life staff, the coordination of student leadership groups, and the development of comfortable living and learning communities that foster academic success. What do you love most about Texas Tech?

All of the long standing traditions! From the Victory Bells to the Masked Rider, from the Goin' Band to "Guns Up!" - traditions are what I value in an institution. I love seeing our students carry on those traditions and bring them to life!

I supervise a group of very talented and young professionals. It's exciting to see them develop in their career and discover their passions in the work that they do with our students.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Coming from North Carolina, I sure enjoy having very little to no humidity on those incredibly hot Texas days. The sunrises and sunsets are pretty spectacular too!

Manager for Conference Services

The Manager for Conference Services, as an educator, serves to provide quality conferences and customer service to internal and external clients. The responsibilities for the Manager for Conference Services are to coordinate the negotiations, logistics, and contracting of conference clients; billing, budgeting, and database management; and assisting conference clients in coordinating their conference. Manager for Conference Services participates in the recruitment, selection and training of student staff as well as the placement of professional staff and student staff for the conference season, and outreach contact concerning orientation and prospective student initiatives. I absolutely love the spirit of the University! The minute you walk on campus, you instantly want to become a Red Raider. From the football games to the plays and concerts there is always something unique to see. What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love that there is never a day that is the same as another. There is always something new and exciting going on. More specifically, I love serving on a couple of the exciting committees offered by University Student Housing. Through these committees not only do I get the chance to grow professionally, but have the opportunity to be a part of making decisions that have positive impacts on students and staff.

I would describe University Student Housing as a family oriented department that strives to provide optimal customer service through a unique educational curriculum and friendly staff while creating an environment that not only fosters learning but becomes a true home-away-from-home for our residents and family environment for staff.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Lubbock is a wonderful community that invests itself in Texas Tech and supports the students and staff of the institution. There is a little something for everyone! I love the First Friday Art Trail, the Moonlight Musicals in the summer and the convenience of the layout of the layout of the city.

The best part of my job is the opportunity that I have to collaborate with other departments. It is very interesting to see what projects other departments support and how my job contributes to those initiatives.

Our department follows the philosophy "work hard, play hard" in most situations. Like every housing program there are times that are extremely busy but, I enjoy that we don't always take ourselves too seriously. And we like to have fun!

I love the weather and the community. Lubbock has plenty to do- museums, great shopping, and nature activities. You just have to leave campus and find those things you love.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

Everything. I love the atmosphere, the campus, and the people. The Raider pride is very infectious. It's easy to want to be a Red Raider when you're surrounded by so many positive and excited people.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy the relationships that I can build with students. Students are my first priority and my goal is to be able to assist students in achieving their short term personal goals so that they can accomplish their long term career goals. I see my position as a character development position, one that can assist students not only with their academic self, but primarily with their personal self.

In a word: opportunity. University Student Housing at Texas Tech is such a great place to grow as a professional. The experiences that we have here will involve you with every aspect of the university. The staff works well together and are extremely friendly and helpful. We are a customer service oriented department and being here to serve is what we do.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Lubbock is a cool town. It has a small town feel to it but it has everything you will ever need. Coming from a very small town of 22,000 people I was little concerned about the jump I would be making to 300,000 people, but Lubbock still feels very comfortable. Everyone is so nice and helpful in Lubbock.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

Some would call it school pride, but it's really more about presence. Texas Tech just has something that pulls people in and brings them together, and you can see that whether you are on campus or out exploring Lubbock. This university doesn't function in it's own little bubble, but is truly a part of the community that surrounds it.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

Housing is often the place where students begin their Texas Tech experience. What I love the most about my job is that I am able to provide opportunities for residents to meet new people, get involved, and build tradition through the programs and resources that housing offers.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

The branding is amazing to me! I love how focused in everyone is on the double T, Raider Red, and everything red and black. The pride students show in their university really draws outsiders in and it’s awesome to see so many people stand behind one thing.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love helping others and helping to improve their day. Working with students and student leaders can be challenging at times, but when they have a good day, I have a good day as well. It’s exciting to take a student from unmotivated or unsure to excited and passionate about something.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I would describe USH as student centered. Customer service is the number one priority here and it’s great to see everyone in the department working together towards that goal. Everyone is very understanding and excited to work with people, new and returning!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

It’s the biggest town I’ve lived in since high school! There are so many little shops or restaurants to explore and find. A lot of people have a lot of different favorite spots and it’s fun to hear all there is to do. People may describe the town as small, but it’s also pretty mighty. It can stand its own. I also love how nice everyone is, on campus and in the community!

I love that everywhere you look at Tech the Double T can be found. There is so much pride here, I honestly cannot compare it to any other experience I have had. I also love the traditions. Texas Tech has so many rich traditions and I love learning about each individual one.

I love working with the students, the student staff, and the amazing professional staff. I have the opportunity to develop students and see their growth from move-in to graduation. University Student Housing focuses on customer service and the development of the student holistically. We want our students to have the best possible experience in our residence halls and we will do anything we can to make sure they are. The student experience is our main priority.

For West Texas, there is a lot to do. There are so many places to explore and there really is something that appeals to everyone.

University Student Housing is unlike the 'typical'. What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I am particularly fond of the school spirit at Texas Tech. Here we use the ‘guns up’ symbol to say hello, and it’s nearly impossible to find anyone on campus that bleeds something other than scarlet and black. The school spirit extends to the city. Whether you’re in the airport, grocery store, or coffee shop, it’s all about Texas Tech and I am thoroughly excited to call this place my home.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love working with the students in each of the residence halls. Every day I get to cultivate leaders, and I am inspired by their dedication, energy, and ambition. As an RLC I get to be a resource for the students. I have the privilege of helping students achieve their lifelong goals, and in the process, I continue to grow.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

I would describe USH as a family oriented department. We ensure student development and success, but we also make time to attend to one another. Here the worker and the person is taken into consideration. USH is a place that helps you reach your goals and helps you to become a better leader.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I really enjoy the people in Lubbock, Texas. Everyone is down to earth and there is always a park event, musical, or sporting event to go to with your friends. Lubbock also has some of the best food around. You can try a new restaurant every weekend, and around Lubbock, there is always good company.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

There is a lot to love about Texas Tech! My favorite thing has to be school spirit. It's neat to watch how much pride students, staff, and the community alike have in Tech. There is also many fun things to see and do around campus! Watching the football team is also a big plus, and I really love the lazy river at the rec center.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy working with students and helping them transition to the college environment, seeing them get involved, and becoming successful Red Raiders! I also love working directly with student staff, GHCs, and SBAs and watching them blossom into successful individuals in the workplace and in life. Overall, the number of great opportunities we are afforded here at Tech, and in University Student Housing, are amazing and developmental!

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The first word that comes to mind is family. Everyone in the department cares about their work and serving students and goes the extra mile to ensure success. While we also work really hard in our roles, we take the time to get to know each other outside of work through social opportunists, and often times participate in "West Texas Chit Chat," and act as a big family!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

Despite what some people may say, I think that there's actually quite a lot to do in Lubbock. Many fun activities, both indoors and out, await you! I enjoy Prairie Dog Town, finding new bike routes, going to the movies, or venturing out and trying new restaurants (there are hundreds - from familiar chains to local Lubbock gems). I also really appreciate that there's a good majority of the stores from home that I'm used to!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

The thing I love most is the amount of school spirit and pride. Everywhere you go on campus or within the Lubbock community, you can spot Double T’s, see others giving the ‘Guns Up’ signal, or see someone wearing Tech attire. It brings us all together as Red Raiders every day.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love being able to work with energetic and dedicated student leaders on a daily basis. Helping students get involved in leadership roles, find their passion areas, and work towards creating a community within the residence halls are just a few of the things I enjoy about my job. Working with student leadership is always a rewarding adventure!

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

USH is a very welcoming department! I served as an ACUHO-I intern during grad school and fell in love with the student-centered approach as well as the SERVE TECH customer service model. We work hard, play hard, and consider each other family.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

There are plenty of things to do to keep busy in Lubbock—more restaurants than you can imagine, museums, Prairie Dog Town, places to shop, volunteer opportunities, Moonlight Musicals, and the 4th on Broadway festival have been some of my favorite aspects!

I love the fact that we are so close to many natural amenities (Palo Duro, Carlsbad Cavern). Lubbock is also a great place to enjoy different music genres, fantastic theater productions, great food, and sports.

Positivity and education are profoundly important to me and I absolutely adore the focus we place on those two values here at Tech. Here at Tech I love how encouraged I feel to further my development as a positive person, educator, leader, customer service provider, and helper.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love teaching, it’s in my bones. Whether it’s in front of a group or in a one-on-one setting I absolutely love that I get to engage students and staff in life changing conversations daily. On top of that I love social justice, and I feel profoundly blessed that I get though share that love with others through my position and encourage those around me to learn to love social justice too.

From my very first phone call with the department, I have always been struck by how incredibly welcome I’ve been made to feel here at USH. To me Lubbock really is the friendliest city in the US, and a huge part of that is USH. I have never worked anywhere that felt more positive, more welcoming, more fun, or friendlier than USH here at Tech.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love how beautiful the campus is, whether we’re talking about the trees, the buildings, or the public art I absolutely adore walking around this campus. Plus, I’m a huge movie guy and I cannot express how much I have absolutely loved visiting the Alamo theatre here in Lubbock.

It’s the perfect place to call home. University Student Housing is full of employees at every level all here to serve with a smile on their faces. This Disney like customer service is no joke!

I love the weather, I come from a place that has more snow than sunny days and I love the sunshine. Campus pride is not shy in Lubbock, that double t is branded in and on every possible surface, it makes you know you are part of something more than just a job. What do you love most about Texas Tech?

My favorite part about Texas Tech are all the unique and abstract art pieces that can be found all over campus. Some buildings also have beautiful art displayed in the walls. I also love all the school spirit and all the pride people in the community take in being part of Texas Tech. The staff and students show a great deal of pride in been Red Raiders.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I absolutely love the charisma and spirit. The students, faculty and staff smiles are contagious and warming. I also enjoy being surrounded by numerous cultures and diversity.

Living in hall and seeing the residents figure out the world and experiencing epiphanies. Every time I get to meet someone new in my building or saying hello to someone new makes my day.

I would describe university housing similar to the Brady Bunch. Everyone has their own quirk, specialty and characteristic. We meld together to create a warm, caring family unit.

I enjoy the lack of moisture. The temperature is high, but the humidity comfortable to hang outdoors. I was also blown away by how incredibly nice the folks in this city are. There are also many fun furry animals like prarie dogs!

I love the pride and affinity that the students have for their school. Where else can you find a song, like Victory Bells by Josh Abbott, about what it means to be a Raider? When you walk onto the Texas Tech campus you feel the love that the students have for their school. I may be new to Texas Tech but I already feel that I bleed Scarlet and Black!

The students are what I look forward to everyday. Being able to engage with students on a daily basis is the highlight of this position. Furthermore, the ability to challenge the students through academic and social programs makes this position truly amazing.

University Student Housing is a family! We are constantly spending a lot of time with each other inside and outside of work and we love each other. These are the people that I am going to consider my family for the rest of my life and I have to say that this family was everything and more than what I expected!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love that Lubbock is a college town. The city and the university are connected causing the students to have access to so many different and unique opportunities in the city. I also love that when it comes to pride for the school, it does not matter if you are a student or you have lived in Lubbock your whole life, there is no question that Texas Tech is the best university in the country!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

What I love most thus far about Texas Tech would be the pride that students, employees, alumni, and the community have for Tech! I also really enjoy all of the different traditions that go on and all of the history that is all around when here on campus! When walking around campus one can see in the students faces that they are proud to be here and one can sense the love that they have for their University.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I look forward to working and interacting with students every day! I love that not only can I make an impact on their lives, but they can make an impact on mine. I also really enjoy that each day brings something new to challenge me and allow me to grow and learn not only in my position, but also as a person.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

Since being here, I would definitely have to say that this department is like a family. These individuals know that we are all coming from different walks of life, and yet they go out of their way to make sure that we are comfortable in our work and living environment, while still challenging us daily and setting us up for success. Everyone is also ALWAYS upbeat, excited to share what they are doing, and also teach everyone about the Disney customer service values that University Student Housing holds at heart!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

While being here in Lubbock I have found so many things that I love doing…outside of the multiple Target’s that is!! I really enjoy that Lubbock is a big city with everything you need, yet it truly has the feel of a smaller town with genuine and kind people. Also the support that the community has for Tech is just incredible!

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I love the conversation and support of the staff. They are all willing to help and answer any questions you may have. The friendly people are what makes Texas Tech a welcoming and thriving community.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy the student engagement and development aspect of my position. I get the privilege to work with amazing CAs, SAs, SBA, and RLC. The interaction with people is where I really thrive.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The USH is inviting, engaging, and progressive. The staff wants to get to know you and really care about what you are saying. They are really open minded and allow you to be your truest self.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love how the Marsha Sharp freeway can take you anywhere you need to go. Honestly everything is like 10 to 5 minutes away. It is convenient and easy living in Lubbock.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

I absolutely the campus! The buildings at Texas Tech are so beautiful, as are all of the art pieces. I love going on walks around campus, because I always seem to find another beautiful thing.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I love that every day is different. I am surrounded by wonderful staff members who are constantly making me think critically, and allowing me to learn and grow.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The Department is full of people who genuinely want you to learn and grow as an individual. There are so many opportunities here if only you ask.

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I love how much Texas Tech pride the community has. You will see the Double T everywhere in the community, in the decorations and on the sides of buildings.

What do you love most about Texas Tech?

My favorite thing about Texas Tech is the school spirit. I also love the beautiful pieces of art that are all over campus. In addition, I love the architecture of the buildings.

What aspects of your position do you enjoy most?

I enjoy talking and getting to know new people.  In addition, I love being able to work with different groups around campus. Texas Tech makes it really easy to help out with hall government to RHA/NRHH or teaming up with another student org, the possibilities are endless.

How would you describe the University Student Housing Department to a potential candidate?

The housing department is one of a kind. I love how energetic everyone is and how excited they are to help the Red Raider family. Amongst the energy they are the friendliest people I have ever met. I feel as though anyone is welcomed here!

What are some things you enjoy about living in Lubbock, Texas?

I enjoy how close everything is to campus, and how easy it is to navigate through the city of Lubbock. In addition, I believe there is something here for everyone from music to art. Lubbock also has a lot of cool movie theaters and shops to go to.

Within the Residence Life Office are one or more advisors who assist the Senior Associate Managing Director and Assistant Directors by performing administrative duties and assisting in the administration of the residence halls. In addition, the advisors generate payroll appointments of all student staff, reconcile monthly expense reports, serve on Departmental committees, and coordinate other special projects as requested.

Senior Business Assistants - Hall/Complex Secretaries

The Senior Business Assistant - Hall/Complex Secretary assists in the daily management and operation of the Hall/Complex; specifically the office operations. The SBA is primarily involved in providing customer service through various clerical and office duties.
