What To Bring to the Residence Halls

Welcome to your college experience! Before you begin your journey at Texas Tech, we suggest you review your room/hall assignment and contact any roommate(s) currenty signed up for your room or suite by looking over Your Sign Up Checklist ».

One of the first things you can do to get your year headed in the right direction to start talking with your roommate(s) about what you are planning to bring to college before bringing everything yourself. Often the amenities in a room are shared – there's no need (or space) for two of everything. Coordinating which roommate(s) will bring large items like refrigerators, microwaves and televisions can save space and make a much more pleasant living environment.

After talking to your roommate(s), remember to pack carefully. You will most likely not be able to bring everything you own and have it fit in your residence hall room. Therefore, you need to be smart when packing and remember to first pack everything you will need and then pack the things you will want. This way you will know what is necessary and what can wait until some space clears up.

It will also be helpful for you to learn about the Residence Hall » in which you are going to live. If you are knowledgeable about the hall where you will be living, you will know what resources are available to you, such as a community microwave or kitchen. This can help you decide what you will bring and not bring as you pack.

Below you will find a list of suggested items to make your year a success. If you have any questions regarding what you can and cannot bring, feel free to email us at housing@ttu.edu or give us a call at 806.742.2661. Also, remember that Residence Hall Staff » are available to help you with questions or to sit down and help you and your roommate work understand the roommate agreement.
